The Building Trades program equips students with essential construction skills, including carpentry, electrical, and plumbing fundamentals. By blending hands-on training with theoretical knowledge, participants are thoroughly prepared for the workforce. Graduates leave the program job-ready, possessing the skills to construct, repair, and maintain buildings, making them highly valuable in the ever-evolving construction industry. This comprehensive preparation ensures a smooth transition into their professional careers.
The Health Science Program prepares students for the medical field by teaching essential skills such as patient care, medical terminology, and basic clinical procedures. It offers hands-on experience and theoretical knowledge, enabling graduates to enter healthcare professions with confidence. Students learn to support patient health, understand medical settings, and perform foundational healthcare tasks, setting the stage for further specialization or immediate employment in the healthcare industry.
Heavy Equipment Operator
Operating Engineers are in high demand in the region. Heavy Equipment Operator Courses are offered both at the BASC and regionally in partnership with the Rough Rider Area Career & Technical Center and Local 49. The four semester sequence for heavy equipment operations courses offered are Construction Explorations, Basic Grade & Construction Math, Basic Construction Equipment Fundamentals, and Basic Maintenance of Mobile Equipment. Students in the program have the oportunity to gain their Osha 10 Certification and gain hands-on skills through the utilizion of simulators and equipment. Students completing coursework and attending the hands-on training events are eligible to receive credit towards the IUOE Local 49 registered universal equipment operator apprenticeship program, where they will receive OSHA safety training and gain the skills necessary to become proficient heavy equipment operators in a wide array of heavy equipment in both the dirt and crane aspects of the industry.
The CDL course exposes students to CDL careers and to provides an opportunity to obtain the CDL license. During the course, students complete a 30 hour online course, which adds their name to the Federal Registry as completing an Approved Entry Level Driver Training Course. Once students turn 18, they have the opportunity to complete the road and range portion through TrainND. Students need to be 18 to obtain the CDL permit and to earn the CDL license.

Welders are needed throughout the Bakken Region. Within this pathway, students are intruduced to welding safety and personal protective equipment. Students learn to weld in multiple different processes and are prepared for a variety of careers within the welding industry.
Work-based Learning Coordinators combine and coordinate the efforts of many individuals, assuring that work-based learning experiences effectively and efficiently help students develop knowledge, skills, attitudes, and work habits to move successfully into the world of work. WBL Coordinators collaborate with Industry Partners, Career Development, Career Advisors, CTE Instructors, core content instructors, post-secondary institutions, students, and administrators to facilitate internships, apprenticeships, job shadows, paid work, volunteer service, and business tours.
Students can work for 2 periods during the school day and gain credit for it. Most CWE’s occur during the last 2 periods of the day for a minimum of 90 minutes, which is from about 1:30 to 3:00. Students can work beyond that as agreed upon. Students will receive 1.0 CWE credit (CTE/elective credit) for the school year, or 0.5 CWE credit per semester. Students must be 16 years of age and be able to provide their own transportation. Seniors must have 18.0 credits already earned to participate (19.0 if they desire an off period).
